Whether
you are laying squares or rolls of sod, the process is pretty
much the same. You'll find that the laying of sod is a fairly
simple task. It is important, however, to
give careful attention to the layout, avoiding gaps and cracks
to maximize full ground coverage.
After "pre-installation"
stage is completed and the site area is prepared for accepting
the sod, follow these steps to begin sodding:
Centipede
- Place
the sod tightly together to avoid cracks,
- Water
thoroughly
- Roll
to insure good sod-to-soil contact.
- Apply
about 1/4 inch of water daily until the sod is well rooted
into the soil before beginning more "normal" watering
practices.
Bermuda
- Lay
sod placing tightly together to avoid cracks.
- Roll
Sodded area.
- Keep
moist by watering at least once per day.
- In
two weeks apply three pounds of ammonium nitrate on a spring
or summer planting, or equivalent, and water immediately
following the application.
- Start
mowing with sharp mower within two weeks after sodding.
Keep mowed at 3/4 to 1-inch height.
- Water
as needed.
After
installation, be sure to follow recommended guidelines
to improve your harvest of a mature, healthy turf. |
