Sod Installation

Laying SodWhether you are laying squares or rolls of sod, the process is pretty much the same. You'll find that the laying of sod is a fairly simple task. It is important, however, to give careful attention to the layout, avoiding gaps and cracks to maximize full ground coverage.

After "pre-installation" stage is completed and the site area is prepared for accepting the sod, follow these steps to begin sodding:

Centipede

  1. Place the sod tightly together to avoid cracks,
  2. Water thoroughly
  3. Roll to insure good sod-to-soil contact.
  4. Apply about 1/4 inch of water daily until the sod is well rooted into the soil before beginning more "normal" watering practices.

Bermuda

  1. Lay sod placing tightly together to avoid cracks.
  2. Roll Sodded area.
  3. Keep moist by watering at least once per day.
  4. In two weeks apply three pounds of ammonium nitrate on a spring or summer planting, or equivalent, and water immediately following the application.
  5. Start mowing with sharp mower within two weeks after sodding. Keep mowed at 3/4 to 1-inch height.
  6. Water as needed.

After installation, be sure to follow recommended guidelines to improve your harvest of a mature, healthy turf.
